submitted to the BFC Executive Committee August, 2022
Some of the proposed changes are meant to address the following problems with the current version of the Constitution, concerning voting privileges of emeritus faculty:
- The Constitution does not make clear whether all “retired” faculty have the same voting rights as “emeritus” faculty.
- The current version discriminates against retired (or “emeritus”?) faculty who no longer maintain a home in Indiana. (What difference should it make whether a faculty member lives on one side or the other of the Indiana state line?)
- The current version doesn’t make explicit whether “emeritus faculty” does or does not include emeritus non-tenure-track faculty.
The other proposed changes are meant to address these questions about meetings of the faculty:
- What are the legislative authorities of such meetings? [Such authorities currently are listed for BFC meetings, but not for meetings of the faculty.]
- Who sets the date, agenda, and rules for a meeting of the faculty?
- Should meetings of the faculty be broadcast, to allow viewing by faculty unable to attend?
