Proposed changes to the Constitution of the Bloomington Faculty to clarify which retired faculty have BFC representation

Submitted to the BFC Executive Committee November, 2022

Rationale for the above proposed revisions to the Constitution of the Bloomington Faculty concerning the issue of which retired faculty have voting privileges:

1.   The Constitution does not make clear whether emeritus status is required for retired faculty to have voting privileges. Sections 1.4, 1.6, and 5.5B only mention “emeritus” faculty, but not “retired” faculty. In contrast, Section 5.5D specifies rights of “retired” faculty without mentioning rights of “emeritus” faculty.

2.   The current version discriminates against retired faculty who no longer maintain a home in Indiana. What difference should it make whether a faculty member lives on one side or the other of the Indiana state line?
